Being overweight is not bad luck, or bad genetics and it can be controlled. The most common reason for wanting to lose fat is for health or aesthetics but there are numerous other benefits such as improved concentration, improved self esteem and improved energy levels, to name just a few. The first step to controlling weight and fat is having the knowledge to do so. Nutrition is a science in its infancy. Health gurus who claim to know the “5 super foods to help you lose tummy fat” are talking nonsense. The truth is that absolutely no one knows everything about what health and nutrition advice YOU should follow. The nutrition that your body requires to function optimally is very personal to you and may not work for the next person. To find out what works best for you will require knowledge about how each food is processed in the body and then trial and error.
Once you have the knowledge in place, it can still be quite a task to use it and form healthy lifelong habits. Having a support system in place can greatly improve your chances of success. The longer you practice these healthy eating habits, the easier they become and before you know it, they will become second nature. A choice in the supermarket between the healthy option and the tasty option will no longer be an either or decision. You will find that over time, your taste buds change and adapt to liking healthier, better quality food that will give you more energy. You won’t crave as much of the processed and refined sugars that will leave you bloated and sluggish.
I have spent almost nine years studying health and nutrition and have gone through this process of forming healthy habits. I have fallen off the healthy train a few times and I know how difficult it can be to continue to eat for health and energy.
